16 year old Joshua Levavasseur was depressed. He’d left school with no GCSEs, wasn’t doing anything and felt let down, both by himself and the system.Joshua’s big break came when he was invited to a careers event where he learnt more about the Aspire2work programme.

Adam Norton, aged 17, went to local college to do painting and decorating courses, but after finishing his first year he was very disappointed and felt that it had not been the right choice. Adam was more interested in retailing and wanted a job, placement or apprenticeship, but felt like he didn't know where to go.

Nicola Craven seldom attended High School and never achieved her GCSEs. She couldn't find the right course, and always felt she was struggling to keep up with her classmates, however she was really upset that she couldn't go to college and wanted to do something about changing her prospects.

Case Study - Phil Johnson
Aspire-i has successfully filled more then 1000 Future Jobs Fund (FJF) jobs in Bradford, working with Bradford Council. The scheme has gone some way towards changing employers' perceptions of the long term unemployed.

Case Study - Phil Beetham
Phil Beetham, 24 from Shipley, was long-term unemployed and had a spell in prison in 2009 after being made redundant. He had a lot of trouble finding a job and commented: "It was terrible being out of work. I kept cleaning the house and doing my garden just to stay sane!"

It’s been a busy few months for David, just one of the many young people who have grasped their second chance through Aspire2work with both hands. Before the course, I was in trouble with the police. I struggled at school and got very mad when I didn’t understand lessons," explains David.

Usman Nasir was bored at home. He wasn’t doing anything and didn’t have an idea about what he’d like to do in his future career.He heard via a friend about the Aspire2work programme, and his friend thought the alternative way of learning was really enjoyable.

Case Study - Howarth Riding for the Disabled
The first group of charities received their grants from the Lord Mayor last September and we are currently visiting them to see the difference the money has made to organisations supporting the disabled, the homeless and young people.
